Iced tea: New recipe

There are endless possibilities to make iced tea. Sometimes my tryouts are great, and sometimes, well… they suck!

And today was a lucky day since my random tryout turned out to be quite good.

I boiled for about half a liter of water and let 3 bags of Lipton citrus green tea infuse for 15 minutes. I added half a liter of cold water, three sprigs of mint, two tablespoons of sugar, half of a little lemon, and strawberries cut into pieces.

Serve really cold and enjoy it!

Lots of love,

Personalized bobby pins

Bobby pins are often black or golden. Or decorated with a little flower. I don’t often find colored bobby pins. And by colored I mean simple ones with a nice color. And when I find them, they’re way overpriced.

There’s an easy solution, just make them yourself!

All you need are simple bobby pins and nail polish to paint them. It’s done in no time and you have personalized bobby pins!

And thanks to my dear sister, Katia, for modeling in our garden :-)

Lots of love,

Liebster award!!

Some time ago I got nominated for the Liebster Award by Isabelle. You can find my Liebster award post here!

I got a new nomination by Ricardo, thank you Ricardo!!
You should definitely check his blog. He writes in such a romantic and warm manner. You can feel his words.

And I’m very happy to answer his 11 questions. And I’m even happier to let you discover 11 new bloggers. That’s what it is all about, bloggers helping and appreciating each other. Who doesn’t like the lovely feeling you have when other bloggers like your writings?

Here are the “rules” for the new nominees:
♣ Acknowledge, link back and thank the person that nominated you.
♣ Use the Liebster Award image to add to the post.
♣ Answer the 11 questions given to you.
♣ Nominate up to 11 bloggers with less than 200 followers.
♣ Don’t forget to let these bloggers know!
♣ Give them 11 questions to answer.

These were Ricardo’s questions. Hope he didn’t make it too difficult… :-)

  1. For you, is it LOVE really a four letter word?
According to the internet, the saying “love is a four letter word” means the following: While there has been great changes in the words used in social situations there are many words which are not acceptable. Many of these are four letter words (You are free to find some of these words yourself, I’m not going to write them down here ;-)).”Love is a four letter word? means the word shouldn’t be used – probably because of a broken heart or painful memories.

In that case, love isn’t a four letter word.

Even if it weren’t in that case, love isn’t a four letter word.

Love is more to me than just four letters. Love is more to me than any letter or word. Love is about feelings and thoughts you can’t put into words.

Love is in pushing your niece or nephew to the side of the houses on the sidewalk.

Love is in overwhelming people with food.. or hugs.. or smiles.. or little cards..

    Love is in a glance.

Love is in understanding each other without saying a word.

Love is in doing things you don’t like to do someone a favor.

Love is in all those little things we don’t even notice…

  2. Whose celebrity eyes would you consider the most tantalizing?
This one is a difficult. I never really thought about this. So I googled and googled and finally decided to choose Sophie Turner, the actress who plays Sansa Stark in Game of Thrones. Why? Well.. just google her and you’ll understand immediately!
  3. What’s your favorite TV series and movie?
I think I’ll go for Friends. It was shot so long ago but the humor is simply timeless. I don’t have a favorite movie. I have favorites movies for some time until I watch a new movie that becomes my favorite, for a while. And at this moment (don’t judge me!) its frozen. I like the songs, I like the story, it is funny, and it makes me happy.
  4. Do you have any addictions?
    Chocolate? And hugs, definitely hugs!
  5. What’s the word that, in your humble opinion, best defines love?
Tenderness? Cherishing? Respect and appreciation? Passion?
I wrote above I can’t capture love in one word and there are so many kinds of love as people on earth.
  6. City or countryside?
City, without hesitation. Even though a good walk between meadows and under trees can be very refreshing… You can take the girl out of the city but you can never take the city out of the girl!
  7. Would you rather know everything or nothing at all?
I think I would prefer to know nothing at all. Don’t think I could be happy knowing everything.
  8. If you could, would you make her/him love you?
Yes! I think he already does :-)
  9. Your favorite quote?
The last time I got the same question and answered this: “Le succès annule. Il faut refaire. Mieux si on peut, différemment de préférence.”
But I won’t repeat it, even though I still like the quote. People change every day, you change every day, I change every day. And for some reason I won’t choose this quote as my favorite anymore. And to be honest I don’t want to pick only one, there are so many I love… So here are two out of many I like:

    Like wildflowers
    You must allow yourself
to grow in all the places
    People thought
    you never would.
    – E.V.

    Too often
    we underestimate
    the power of a touch
    a smile
    a kind word
    a listening ear
    an honest compliment
or the smallest act of caring
all of which have the potential
    to turn a life around
    – Leo Buscaglia

  10. Hazy autumn turning to winter or premature spring blossom?
Premature spring blossom! I prefer this nature reborn a hundreds times above autumn, even though autumn knows a mix of beautiful colors. Every season has its beauty, but spring is my favorite. Like a cocoon opening up to a new world.
  11. The ultimate love question. Blondes or brunettes?

Here is a list of the eleven bloggers I nominate for the Liebster award:

1. Sonja’s Photography Folio
2. a mother in the city
3. Colourful Mornings
4. Mirror the love
5. tealcrown.
6. C’est Yoli
7. Monica Harmony
8. Britt’s Flava
9. Sugarinducedcoma
10. 365 Photo
11. The Casual Blonde

You should definitely check their blogs!!

Here are my eleven questions for these bloggers:

  1. What would choose and why: a world without movies or a world without music?
  2. What have you always wanted to do but never did?
  3. Holidays at the seaside or mountains?
  4. What is your favorite season of the year and why?
  5. How come you started blogging?
  6. Your favorite song?
  7. Are you a shower or a bath person?
  8. Sweet or salty?
  9. A favorite quote?
  10. Can you give a top 3 of celebrities you like and why you like them?
  11. What is the one thing you couldn’t live without and why?

I’m curious the read their answers and once again, thank you Ricardo for the nomination!

Lots of love,

Wednesday August 19

And those who were seen dancing, were thought to be insane by those who could not hear the music.
– Friedrich Nietzsche

Some say this quotation is about people alienated from reality.

But think about it.

If you see people dancing behind a window and you don’t hear the music, their movements may seem weird and funny.

If I see people dancing behind a window without hearing the music, I would imagine what they are dancing to. And smile. I would smile because I would like to dance too.

What meaning do you find behind this quote?

Lots of love,

P.S. I won’t post a quote next week since I am on vacation and I’m not taking my computer with me, but feel free to post some in the comment section :-)

I went on a weekend with two girlfriends and we made pancakes! One of them had some kind of pancake machine and it was so easy and fast to make those pancakes. The machine kind of looked like this, except we added the strawberries and whipped cream on our plates.

Come Dine With Me by Swan Pancake Maker topped with stawberries, raspberries, whipped cream & pistachios

I decided to remake them at home because they were so delicious but it took me a lot longer to bake them in my tiny pan. But they were as good as they were during our weekend!

This is what you need for about 16 pancakes:
♣ 200 gr of pastry flour
♣ one tablespoon of backing powder
♣ one bag of vanilla sugar
♣ 3 dl of milk
♣ 50 gr of butter
♣ 1 egg
♣ pinch of salt
♣ optional: 1 vanilla pod

1Put the flour, sugar, backing powder and salt in a bowl. Take the seeds out of the vanilla pod and add them too.

♥ add what is left of the vanilla pod to a bowl of sugar, after a while it becomes vanilla sugar ;-)

Separate the egg white and yolk. Beat the egg white with a pinch of salt. Mix the yolk and milk. Add this to the mixture of dry ingredients. Mix until there are no more clots left. Finally add the egg white.

Now you can bake your pancakes. Don’t make them too thick, it will take too much time to bake them!

I ate them with melted chocolate, fruit salad and some tea. It was delicious! You should definitely try this at home ;-)

Lots of love,

What if I had never met you?

– Anita Krizzan

Did you ever think about it?

What if you had never met that friend who always stayed by your side?

What if you had never met that old lady who gave you some advice at the bus stop?

What if you had never met that teacher who kept believing in you?

What if you didn’t have your mom who kept encouraging you?

What if you never went to that country where you learnt so much?

What did they all mean to you?
Maybe you would have made other choices.
Maybe you would have given up. Maybe you would have done things differently. Maybe you wouldn’t be who you are today.

But maybe it doesn’t matter.

Maybe all that counts is the wonderful person you are today.

Lots of love,

Late afternoon lunch

During holidays (yes, it is my last summer vacation before starting my first job!) and when I’m home alone, I lose any sense of time and I eat at the most impossible times. Breakfast at 11 am, lunch at 4 pm.

That’s what I did today.

A late afternoon lunch, put together with some leftover.

I made a small tomato-cucumber salad with a mustard vinaigrette and some salt and ground pepper. To make the vinaigrette, just mix some mustard with vinegar and oil, I used white wine vinegar and corn oil.

Furthermore I had some sausage and a slice of Parma ham left, a piece of quiche, and watermelon. Finally I toasted a pita bread.

I opened a bottle of rosé and enjoyed the sun and my garden.

A couple of days ago I decided to enjoy at least once a day one of nature beauties. Often it is the clouds or the color mix of the sky when the sun is going down.

Today it was the beautiful green color of the grass…

Hope you enjoyed a nice day too and if you had a bad day, ‘cause everybody knows what a bad day is, just watch outside your window, admire what you see, take a deep breath and continue rocking your life!

Lots of love,

Au Pays des Merveilles

I got a new place for you to discover in Brussels! It’s called Au Pays des Merveilles (APDM). You can go there for breakfast, brunch, or lunch to enjoy bagels, pancakes, ‘pain perdu’, smoothies, tea, etc.

I came here the first time with my girlfriends for a brunch. We didn’t know what to choose, so we ordered a little too much, but it was soo good and with a small pause we were able to finish everything.

We all took a breakfast-bagel, accompanied with butter, chocolate spread, peanut butter, and two kinds of jam. One of my friends told me to combine the peanut butter and jam, it was amazingly delicious!

One friend chose breakfast pancakes, and two others got pancakes with apple, chocolate and nuts. I took yogurt with muesli and cherries. We shared the pain perdu made from brioche and it was simply yummy.

We had a great time in a cozy atmosphere. I went back later with another friend for pancakes and ones again they were very good!

We were served and helped by three lovely and very friendly ladies. It is quite small inside but very cozy. I really love the pink crocodile painting above the counter. Hope you’ll be able to discover this nice place!

Wednesday August 5

I can’t promise you
that dark clouds
will never hover
over our lives
or that the future
will bring us many rainbows.
I can’t promise you
that tomorrow
will be perfect
or that life will be easy.
I can promise you
my everlasting devotion,
my loyalty, my respect,
and my unconditional love for a lifetime.
I can promise that
I’ll always be there for you,
to listen and to hold your hand,
and I’ll always do my best to make you happy,
and make you feel loved.
I can promise that
I’ll see you through any crisis,
and hope with you,
dream with you,
build with you,
and always cheer you on
and encourage you.
I can promise that
I’ll willingly be your protector,
your advisor, your counselor,
your friend, your family,
your everything.
I promise you.

I couldn’t find the author of these beautiful words. I did find a website which stated ‘by Bhal‘. Whoever Bhal is, I want to thank him/her for having shared this poem.

I hope you enjoyed it as much as I did.

Lots of love,
